Hydrocele. A hydrocele is a painless collection of fluid around the testis. Hydroceles are not harmful but they can be uncomfortable. Options for treatment include aspiration or surgical drainage. Surgery is usually done as a daycase procedure under general anaesthetic. Risks include infection, bleeding, pain (which can be chronic), a small risk of testicular damage and recurrence.
Epididymal cysts are a fluid collections on the collecting tubes of the testis, known as the epididymis. They are not harmful but can be uncomfortable, especially if they grow to a large size. Surgery to remove epididymal cysts is usually done as a daycase. Risks include infection, bleeding, pain (which can be chronic), a small risk of testicular damage and recurrence.
